Jeff Jones entered the the monthly Cinema City International Film Festival contest which is run by Suzanne Delaurentiis, and found this morning that his script, The Lazarus Grid won the June contest! Congratulations Jeff!  7.14.10

Si Dunn's ultra-low-budget feature project Criminal Conversations, is nearing production and is seeking funding. The projected budget is $50,000 (USD), and the movie will be shot in Santa Fe, New Mexico; or Austin, Texas, depending on available resources. Animation Dance Association is looking for scriptwriters for www.adasport.com animation contest.  The ADA is a new, global animation competition where 8 professional animation teams compete against each other for the ADA Championship Title and monthly money prize $15,000.  Each team produces 15-90 second animation clips with various dancing character(s) and/or objects. Mark Winzer's screenplay "Ripples" was just selected as one of ten finalists for the upcoming Cinequest Film Festival; and his other screenplay, "Dressed in a Black Flag" was just announced as the winner of the October Cinema City Film Festival screenplay competition after winning the Reelheart Film Festial and the Wildsound Film Festival in Toronto where it was staged as a live production with a full cast at the Canadian National Film Board.  1.13.10

Curt Burdick's novel, "The Epic Adventures of A Band of Champion Archers" (the first in a series) has obtained literary representation to publishers with Michael Hamilburg, Mitchell Hamilburg Literary Agency. A screenplay adaptation has also been completed. 11.29.09

Last years winners in the AWS Screenplay Contest, Brian Pittman and Rachel Long, have just optioned their brilliant script, "Stranded" to Enderby Entertainment, with Dan Petrie, Jr. (Beverly Hills Cop, The Big Easy, Turner & Hooch) attached to direct. The Annual AWS Meeting for 2009 was really interesting and productive, with Cerise Fukuji screening her Bomb Squad and iWatch pitch reels, and special guest Jackie Hickie and her dog JJ from the LAPD/FBI anti-terrorism/bomb squad division. Screenwriter and storyboard artist, Steve D'Arcangelo, just finished artwork on a short film for B.E.T., called Woman’s Work, which made it’s TV debut on Oct. 29th, 2009.

Anne Bonny, the Pirate, by Nathan Carliner Goldman and Miriam Esther Goldman, won second place at SkyFest II. Their Mademoiselle (a female Phantom of the Opera) is a quarterfinalist at the Champion Screenwriting Contest. Nathan's Fish out of Water (school integration in 1966 South Carolina from the viewpoint of a Jewish high school senior) was also a fourth place finisher at SkyFest II.   10.12.09

First European Network is Looking for TV Pilots.  We are looking for low budget TV pilots for a new European TV.  They need to be shot in a good quality. Hank Isaac's award-winning screenplay, "The Stars Don't Twinkle in Outer Space," just won 2009 Best Screenplay, First Place, at the Rhode Island International Film Festival.  The film has been making the rounds and has been in competition in ten international film festivals, winning Best Live Action Short Film at Palm Springs.  9.14.09

Andra St. Ivanyi, a terrific writer who specializes in romantic comedies, has been signed by AWS Management, and is currently in development meetings for rewrites.  AWS also signed two additional top-rate screenplay analysts, one with M.F.A. degree in film production who has worked for ABC, Disney, and Warner Bros., and another who works for Akiva Goldsman at Weed Road Pictures at Warner Bros. (Hancock, I Am Legend, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Constantine).   9.6.09

Scripts with Cross-Media Potential Wanted.  We are interested in the next generation of storytelling where the viewer transitions from passive observer to active participant.  We're finding that transmedia storytelling properties which live in the sci-fi, horror and thriller genres seem to work best - both on paper and in the room. Greg Rempel’s comedy, "Kill Bassi!" was optioned by Zin Haze Productions, producers of "Bottle Shock. His screenplay, "If I Were You," was optioned for the second time by William Greenblatt of New Symphony Pictures, (who is going to pitch it to a major studio).  And finally, his revenge/thriller script  "3rd Degree," made the semi-finals at Blue Cat. Unique New Environmental/Green TV Show on PBS is in planning/funding stages.  C2C has secured a distribution deal with PBS to produce a new hour long action/adventure television series called C2C, offering viewers a fusion of real-life and dramatized segments. The show transports two real research teams to Bolivia to uncover advanced ancient technologies containing the secrets to humanity's future.  C2C integrates the adventures of “Indiana Jones” into a heart palpitating “Da Vinci Code” scavenger hunt around the world!  Brian Raider, UPM of Alvin and the Chipmunks and Project Runway has joined our team as our Co-Producer.  Nicole Landers of Fields of Fuel, has joined the team as our sustainability advisor.  Mike Meeker of Foreign Exchange, has joined as our PBS network liaison.   We are currently raising $1,300,000  to finance this tv show scheduled to go into production May 2010.  For more information contact JJ Yosh at jjyosh@juntoventure.org   8.1.09

Hank Issac's pilot teleplay for the original one hour dramatic TV series, “Taffy,” took 2nd place in the 17th People's Pilot competition and won the WildSound Original Pilot Teleplay Competition.  His winning teleplay was performed (read) by professional actors in front of a live audience at the National Film Board in Toronto.  Hank's film (as writer) was just accepted into competition in the LA Shorts Festival (July 23-29).  This marks the 10th international festival in which this film has been an official entry (2008-2009). Hank was also a semifinalist in the first British Feature Screenplay Competition with the screenplay, "Luma," his take on Dante's Divine Comedy with a young ballerina as the protagonist, Manhattan's lower east side as Purgatory, The East River as the River Styx, and yes, Brooklyn is Hell.  6.18.09

Vicki Speegle’s screenplay “Loved Ones” was recently optioned by Back Attitude Productions & Babcock Jedeikin Productions. The script was a finalist in the 2007 Bluecat Screenplay competition. Vicki has also been hired to write a feature film for Applause Films.  6.18.09

Stephen Settle's script, "Eke Bolos" took a first place award in the features category at the Cinema City International Film Festival and was subsequently requested by an "A-list" producer.  The script is currently a quarter-finalist in the Chicago Screenwriters Network contest.  6.18.09

Congrats to William Prystauk for earning an MA/MFA degree in creative writing at Wilkes University, and for gaining new representation by Amy Kelly of The Heather Agency in Georgia. His script, "Red Agenda", the First Place Winner at the 2008 International Horror and Sci-fi Festival and Top-5 Finalist at Screamfest, is under serious consideration by several LA-based producers. ("Red Agenda" is currently being written as a horror-crime novel.) His horror-comedy script "Midnight Probe" was a Finalist at the Paranoia Horror Film Festival in May 2009. His comedy short "MegaClimax 5000" is in production and will be released by December 2009 (Director/Chief Animator: Brian Yount). His script "Bloodletting" (Second Place Winner of the Screenwriters Showcase Screenplay Contest in 2006) is now an erotic crime novel currently under consideration by three publishers.  6.18.09

Karen Frank’s screenplay, "The Ghosts of Gray's Pond" recently won the 2009 McKnight Fellowship ($25,000), and is currently a quarter-finalist in the 2009 Blue Cat Screenplay Competition (still in the running). A hearty congratulations to Christopher Canole, who was  initiated into the Writers Guild of America on June 18th, 2009!  Additionally, his wonderful based on true story scripts,  “Felix the Flyer” and “Her Swastika Sword,” were recently nominated for best screenplay at the Prince Edward Island International Film Festival.  6.18.09

Congrats to Robert Heske, who won a 2009 Independent Publisher Book Award (IPPY award) for his horror trade paperback "Bone Chiller," which features a series of film shorts converted to comic format. "The Waiting Room," one of the shorts in the book, was produced as a short film called "Waiting" by co-writer/director Lisa Demaine and stars Richard Schiff and Izabella Miko. * Curtis Burdick's "Jonnie the Black" script just won the Grand Prize at ENDAS in Genoa, Italy, one of Europe's top screenplay contests.  Curtis will attend the awards ceremony in Genoa on November 9th at Theatro Della Gioventu, when the €1000 prize will be awarded to him by renowned Hollywood screenwriting expert, Syd Field, the event’s guest speaker and jury chairman. Media interviews will be conducted afterward.  The script has been requested by Blue Luna Films, and Alexander Shekarchian Management.  Congratulations Curtis! 10.30.08 

* Jack Vandagriff's  "The Muta'a File", which just won at Moondance, was recently optioned by Linda Graeme, President of Woodberry Productions and is in pre-production mode, with a fascinating logline:  Hiding within Baghdad’s vilest slum, a wounded American reporter and a young Iraqi woman, both marked for death, find a purpose greater than their own survival. "Angel Hair" was also optioned in May by Masiela Lusha, President of Illuminary Films.  Masiela is attached to star and Patrick Tatopolous is attached to direct.  10.16.08

* Anthony Zacarro recently signed an agent at the Gotham Artists Agency, and finished another script, "War Dog." At present, "The Wonder Child" is in the hands of a top Hollywood and academy award winning actress, someone that wouldn't be a first choice to play the leading role, but on second thought, would probably be perfect. Things are moving ahead for Anthony, keep the good news coming!  10.5.08

* Tommy Wood, winner of AWS 2007 Screenplay Contest, just became an associate producer on the new documentary "An Inconvenient Tax." The film is a report about Tax Reform (like the Fair Tax, etc.), and with Tommy involved, is sure to be great. * It's inspiring to see a screenwriter "break in" to the Industry: Mark Kratter's visceral horror/thriller script "Where the Dead Go," just won the 2008 Grand Prize at the Fade In Awards, one of the top contests in the Industry, sponsored by Fade In Magazine! Mark has been writing since he was a little kid, trying to sell his short stories door-to-door. He just finished a script-for-hire for Clark Peterson (who produced MONSTER w/ Charlize Theron), and is developing a high concept comedy with Todd Garner at Broken Road.  9.9.08

* Peter Chen's romantic comedy, "Absolutely American," won the qualifying stage for 2008 Filmmakers.com International Screenwriting Awards, out of 1300 entries worldwide - a great way to beat the competition!

* Eilzabeth Pfeiffer, a terrifically talented writer, just finished her new script, a horror/thriller entitled "Demons & Gargoyles," and has gained representation from Pent 2 Production, and MFM Management, congrats!

* Si Dunn's latest book manuscript, "Dark Signals: A Navy Radio Operator in the Tonkin Gulf, 1964-65," has won 1st runner-up in the manuscript category at the 2008 Mayborn Literary Nonfiction Writers Conference, fantastic news!

* Christopher Canole, a top award-winning writer, has finished the intriguing, "Her Swastica Sword," a sports biopic, which is now entered into competitions. Christopher recently got a six page article in Script magazine, was selected Best New Writer for Her Swastika Sword at this year's Action on Film Festival, won Silver Medal at the Indie Gathering for HSS and HSS nominations for best screenplay at Cinema City International Film Festival and the Dixie Film Festival. 

* Tommy Wood and Marc Benton, winners of 2007 AWS Screenplay Contest, have had their script "Pieces of Eight," requested by: Suite A Management, Zero Gravity Management/Pierce Williams Entertainment, Firehorse Pictures and Astrakan Films. Congrats!
